Vegetarian Food Pyramid

The NEW Food Pyramid

The NEW Food Pyramid

The food pyramid that meat-eaters use has been around for awhile. It tells you
how much of each group you should eat to maintain health. But what about us
vegetarians? We can't benefit as much from it because of their use of meat.
Well, now there is a new pyramid; one that skips the flesh and includes beans,
soy products, and nuts. Please use it when making food choices. Vegetarians
have to take more steps than canivores to make sure they become and stay
healthy.

Suggested servings:

Bread, fruit, and vegetable groups- one of each at every meal. Milk and bean
groups- one of each a day. Sweets- use very sparingly. (Yeah, that's still
the same. Bummer.)

Six Degrees of Vegetarian

You can't be a little dead or kinda pregnant, but you can sorta be a vegetarian. Check it out:

VEGETARIAN: Eats a plant based diet.

OVO-LACTO VEGETARIAN: Eats dairy and eggs, but no meat at all.

LACTO-VEGETARIAN: Eats dairy, but no eggs or meat.

OVO-VEGETARIAN: No dairy or meat, but eats eggs.

FRUITARIAN: Eats only fruit, seeds, and nuts. Not a good idea, health officals warn! VEGAN: Strictest of all; no meat, dairy, eggs...nothing from an animal.
